Despite the name, it’s not just ASFA lure coursing!

It’s ALL sighthound performance events in the Pacific Northwest
(and some additional neighboring states and provinces too)
(not to mention all-breed coursing and racing events)

The Region 1 website is a volunteer effort, designed and maintained by Beth Levine. The site is not officially supported by ASFA. The cornerstone of the website is the comprehensive events calendar.

FAQ

  • ASFA consists of 10 regions, geographically distributed across the United States, Region 1 includes the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska. There are a number of ASFA coursing clubs active within Region 1. All of these clubs may, at various times of the year, hold ASFA-sanctioned lure trials.

  • ASFA Statement of Purpose: “The American Sighthound Field Association is an organization of sighthound fanciers dedicated to the common goal of preserving and further developing the natural beauty, grace, speed, and coursing skill of the sighthound. We will endeavor to promote lure field trials for sighthounds.”

For more information about ASFA, it’s officers, committees, activities, procedures, and publications, please visit the ASFA website.

  • The Region 1 website is a volunteer effort, designed and maintained by Beth Levine. I have been active in sighthounds (first Greyhounds, and now Whippets under the prefix Serendipity) since 1993, and have been actively involved in performance events as an exhibitor, field committee member, board member and delegate of several Region 1 clubs, and as a fully licensed ASFA and AKC lure coursing judge.

The Region 1 website was launched in early 2003 as a joint effort between Judy Lange, at the time the newly elected Region 1 director, and myself, to promote better communication between the Region 1 clubs, and provide a centralized clearinghouse for electronic premium lists for local trials. The site is an independent volunteer effort and is not officially supported by ASFA.

The Region 1 website quickly grew to include information about all sighthound performance events in the region, including racing, AKC and CKC lure coursing, practices, and sighthound specialty shows. In recent years, the scope of the site has grown to include local all-breed lure coursing and racing events, including AKC CAT and FAST CAT programs, and AOK9 all-breed racing and lure coursing, in addition to ASFA’s own all-breed LCI stake. The cornerstone of the website is the comprehensive events calendar.

Since its inception, the Region 1 website has evolved into an important and heavily used resource for the Pacific Northwest sighthound community. I am pleased that my fellow sighthound performance enthusiasts find it a useful resource and welcome feedback and comments. I enjoy working with local event planners and secretaries to provide the most accurate and easily accessible information possible about local events, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

  • YES THEY CAN! AKC’s Coursing Aptitude Test allows ALL AKC-registered dogs (including FSS, ILPs, PALs, and Canine Partners) to discover the joys of lure coursing and racing! Visit AKC’s website for more info about the CAT and FAST CAT programs. Also look for the LCI stake at ASFA lure coursing events, and AOK9 racing and coursing for all breeds. All these offerings for all breeds are listed on the Region 1 calendar.

  • There are a lot of organizations offering running events for sighthounds and now all breeds and mixes too, and it can definitely be dizzying to keep track of the acronyms. Local enthusiast and event secretary Jennifer Behrens put together this handy cheat sheet and shared it in the ASFA Region 1 Facebook group. This should help get you started and you’ll get the hang of it as you start participating. Don’t hesitate to join the Facebook group and ask questions so the community can help!
